The Secret to Fe Fitness Programming

October 17, 2021 by Fitness Ethic Leave a Comment

I promised I would tell you the secret to Fe Fitness Programming, so keep reading or watch this video now to find out how we make every routine a personal training session.

The Unexpected Truth Behind Fitness Programs | Weight Loss vs. Strength Training Youtube Video: Watch Me

Programming Fe Style

Creating and executing an effective exercise program is truly a skill.  At The Fitness Ethic, the secret to our fitness programs is our exercises are adaptable.  Adaptable in our fitness world means most of our routines can be modified to fit almost any fitness level or goal.  To be honest, this is the trademark of a good fitness program, but often is forgotten.

We believe most fitness goals can fall into 3 categories: Weight Loss (Beginner), Strength (Intermediate), and Performance (advance).  Often, we find that fitness levels can be interchangeable with our clients goals. We all have to learn to walk before we can run. However, sometimes you will encounter clients that have a higher skill level than their goals allude to. You may be saying to yourself, “This seems complicated and unfeasible.” Trust us it is simple because our fitness programs are adaptable. One of our favorite words is modification.

How To Break Down Your Routine

First, you modify the movement to the appropriate fitness level.  For example, the first move of the series is designed to be a cardio lower body move, so we choose Squat Jump.  Squat jump can be modified to the following:

Beginner: Triple Extension Squat Body Weight

Intermediate: Squat Jump

Advance: Squat Jump with weight.

Secondly, you further customize the workout by modifying the following 3 variables:

Weight: the load the athlete is under

Tempo: the pace the athlete is expected to perform

Time: the duration of the move and rest

Exercise Example

Below is an example of how we would adapt the squat jump for a client that has a goal of weight loss, but is an intermediate fitness level.

GoalFitness LevelWeightTempoTime
Weight LossIntermediate Body Weight1 jump/sec30 sec on / 10 sec off

Now You Try Or Let Fe Do The Heavy Lifting

As you can see, The Fitness Ethic program style is customizable to any want or need, which is why we consider all of our services personal training.  There is no one fitness program that fits all, and we understand that concept at Fe.  If you are interested in personal training, schedule a free consultation today!

COVID-19 Updates: June 2020 |Reopening Plan

June 15, 2020 by Mercedes Grubb Leave a Comment

When the COVID-19 shutdown hit over 3 months ago we opened our message with this: The Fitness Ethic was founded in the belief that our brand would be more than FITNESS: It would an ETHIC.  That idea has never been more important than it is today.

We want to thank all our members and clientele for making our founding belief a reality. Thanks to your loyalty, trust, and dedication we have not only been able to survive, but thrive through these difficult times.

We plan to reopen our doors once Philadelphia’s mandated closures are lifted. Our number 1 goal will be keeping our community safe by staying compliant with COVID-19 protocols. Recently, we have received many questions about services, memberships, space, etc. and we would like to release the following updates:

Virtual Training

At home virtual training has been a surprising hit with many of our members. Now that we know The Fitness Ethic training style can be done with minimal space, equipment, and over the computer we intend to keep our virtual gym open. Our hope is to deliver both live and on-demand training options daily. Keep an eye out for the virtual service line on MINDBODY.

Group Classes

Group classes will return with a limited schedule and membership availability. If you are interested in securing your spot in classes and have an active membership please email Mercedes@thefitnessethic.com All new clients or inactive members please sign up via MINDBODY here.

Rental Space For Trainers

We are still dedicated to providing personal training space for independent trainers. In the past we have been very lenient with guidelines, protocols, and operations as we want you to have full control over your personal training business. Upon reopening we will be implamenting guidelines to optimize and keep our shared space safe. The first change is we are limiting the number of Independence Training Association Memberships to 20! Prior to the shut down, half of these memberships were taken. If you are a returning member please email James@thefitnessethic.com to claim your spot. If you are inquiring about rental space please schedule a call with James here.

Personal Training

We have had the pleasure of working with many of you through out quarantine. Please contact your trainer directly to discuss how you would like to proceed with your training schedule. All personal training packages that were pause because of COVID-19 will resume 1 week after reopening. If there are any issues with personal packages please email Mercedes@thefitnessethic.com

Semi-Personal Training

We will be launching a new and exciting semi-personal training program. This new way of training will run in 6-week programs that combines the best attributes of group and personal training. We are beyond excited to introduce you to our new program that we have been building that is designed for optimal flexibility, adaptability, affordability, and most imporatnly results! Keep an eye out for more details.

More information will be available as we approach an opening date. Please grab you spots while they last, as memberships are being claimed every day.

Thank you for sticking with us during this extraordinary time. We’re in this together, and we will reopen together.  This is more than fitness, it’s an ethic.  Talk to you soon familia.

The Fitness Ethic Podcast |Episode 6

June 14, 2020 by Mercedes Grubb Leave a Comment

We would like to introduce you to the Fitness Ethic’s dear friend, client, and amazing web developer, Chris Esh. Chris was the first person we decided to interview on the Fitness Ethic Podcast (outside of the team) because he truly believe he embodies the Fitness Ethic MINDSET.

Chris is the owner of Spacious, a web design and digital marketing firm here in Philadelphia. As one of Spacious’ clients we can attest to Chris’ design thinking, attention to detail, and overall desire for his client’s business to succeed.

The goal of our podcast is to bridge the gap between fitness and life. Here are a few instances in which Chris’ fitness and life journey became one. There are many more, but you will have to watch the podcast to find out!

BROTHERHOOD

You will often find that life long friendships start with physical endeavors. Chris and Giovanni’s friendship is a prime example of how sports/athletics can bring two people together who may have otherwise never met. Despite difference life journey’s and time, their brotherhood has lasted 15 plus years. Chris is also experiencing the same type of connection with a group of friends he met at the gym and through working out. While most people go to the gym to make a better connection with their body, one of the greatest connections important connections is the unsuspecting life long friends.

WORST DAYS ARE THE BEST DAYS

In life and athletics we often strive to be the best or fall among the best. Our mindset almost shifts to say, “Bad days are not acceptable.” However, we all experience off days, bad moments, and losses. These “fails” are only viewed as such because we choose to live in those moments, rather than just accepting them as part of our journey. Chris’ new motto in life and fitness is, “This too shall pass,” and he is right. Our worst lifting day or work day does not have be viewed as much more than a fleeting moment. With time, patience, practice, and incremental growth our PR is right around the corner.

QUOTES TO LIVE BY

“Hard choices, easy life. Easy choices, hard life.”
― Jerzy Gregorek

You cannot fake results in fitness. Desirable results only come to those who are willing to do the work. Life has the same exact outcomes. We know everyone has heard the saying, “If it was easy, then everyone would do it.” Chris has learned, while the hard choices are not easy, they are worth it:

“I’m naturally a person that is very aware of all of the possible downsides/dangers to a decision, which often made me put off hard and scary choices in the past. But I’m learning that the more I let my fears dictate my choices, the larger they become. On the flip side, doing the hard things and facing the fears now gets me to the other side, and the fear subsides. Starting my business was a hard choice at the time, but staying at an unfulfilling job for the past 4 years instead would have been much, much harder.”
